Engagement-rate calculator

Engagement by followers5.50%Engagement by reach8.25%Interactions: 660

Rate by followers = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100. By reach, divide by the post’s reach instead: it measures the people who saw the post, not only the ones who follow you.

Add up a post’s interactions and divide by followers or by reach. The example is a post on an account with twelve thousand followers; swap in your own numbers.

How to use it

  1. Open the post’s insights in the network’s app and note its likes, comments, shares, saves and reach.
  2. Type them into the calculator with your follower count. The example numbers show a worked post.
  3. Read the rate by followers to compare accounts, and the rate by reach to see how the people who saw the post reacted.

Questions

Short answers to what people ask most about this tool.

Add up the post’s likes, comments, shares and saves, divide by your followers and multiply by one hundred. For the rate by reach, divide by the post’s reach instead of your followers.

Use reach to judge one post, since it counts only the people who saw it. Use followers to compare accounts, because follower counts are public and reach is not.

It depends on the network, the niche and the size of the account; large accounts usually have lower rates. The fairest test is your own recent posts: work out their rates and see which formats beat your average.

Not in this formula. Views and impressions say how many times the post was shown, not how many people acted on it, so only likes, comments, shares and saves are added up.
